7 Quotes: Defining Joy in Our Lives

*** 7 quotes to consider about how we live our joy.

*** Views today: 7,542 and Thank You!

From Denny: Joy is one of those human experiences that everyone knows and has experienced yet we have a tough time defining it. Joy seems elusive to define in words but we all know that moment when it occurs.

Joy is a state which lives inside us all. Sometimes, because of outward situations and circumstances, we lose touch with our joy. When difficult times come into our lives they can often erode our connection with our inner joy - if we allow it. Never allow anyone or any situation to take your joy.

Negative experiences only have power when we give away our authority to it. When we experience anger, sorrow, fear and hurt it's important to ride through that moment and then shed those negative emotions. Negative emotions are useful to help make us acutely aware of something requiring our attention - then release them. The joy is always there for it is eternal and infinite.

Experiencing lasting joy is accomplished when we cultivate the Divine Presence within us. Constantly nurturing our awareness of that connection strengthens us and keeps our attitude positive.

Joy is this indescribable beauty, stronger felt within that can be lived every day, no matter what is going on around us. Take some time each day to acknowledge your connection to the Divine - and smile, knowing you are living in the vast limitless moment of Joy!

Learning to live in the present moment is part of the path of joy. - Sarah Ban Breathnach

I cannot believe that the inscrutable universe turns on an axis of suffering; surely the strange beauty of the world must somewhere rest on pure joy! - Louise Bogan

May every room hold laughter and
Every window open to great possibility. - Maryanne Radmacher-Hershey, 1995

And think not you can
Direct the course of love,
For love,
If it finds you worthy,
Directs your course.

Love is a wonderful thing.
You never have to take it away
From one person to give it to another.
There's always more than enough to go around.
- Pamela de Roy

Love asks me no questions,
And gives me endless support...
- William Shakespeare

I have been astonished that men could die martyrs for their religion -
I have shudder'd at it.
I shudder no more.
I could be martyr'd for my religion
Love is my religion
And I could die for that.
I could die for you.
- John Keats

A kiss is a lovely trick designed by nature
To stop speech when words become superfluous.
- Ingrid Bergman

Love is like a rumor,
Everyone talks about it,
But no one truly knows.

Love is like swallowing hot chocolate
Before it has cooled off.
It takes you by surprise at first,
But keeps you warm for a long time.

My love for you is a journey;
Starting at forever,
And ending at never.

Right in the middle of an ordinary life,

True poets don't write
Their thoughts with a pen...
They release the ink that flows
From within their heart.

Love doesn't make the world go round,
Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.
~ by Elizabeth Browning ~

Love me without fear
Trust me without questioning
Need me without demanding
Want me without restrictions
Accept me without change
Desire me without inhibitions
For a love so free....
Will never fly away.
- Dick Sutphen

Love is a burning desire,
That makes your heart light on fire,
Love is being with you,
Someone saying I love you too,
Love is your tender kiss,
Something you don't want to miss,
Love is you and me,
And that is all I see.
- Anonymous

Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself
But if your love and must needs have desires,
Let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook
That sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart
And give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer
For the beloved in your heart
And a song of praise upon your lips.
- Gibran Kahlil Gibran

What Do You Feel About Love?

*** View today: 16,974 and Thank You!

*** Do you have your own personal definition of Love?

From Denny: It seems throughout the centuries humanity has tried to define Love. We write about how we think about Love. We speak about how we feel about Love. What seems so certain for some is also elusive for others. Yet the fascination remains.

This quote is interesting because within two small short lines it encompasses the concept of eternity and infinity. Too often our concept of Love is taught to us by society and popular culture instead of by our own experiences, feelings and thoughts.

Sometimes, Love isn't about finding but rather about discovering. The discovering comes from when we make a commitment to build our relationship with that person. It's then the Love unfolds like a beautiful flower and reveals itself.

Quote

True love doesn't have a happy ending:
True love doesn't have an ending.

Why Smiling is Good For Your Spiritual Health: 7 Quotes About Smiling

*** 7 delightful smile quotes to give you a boost today!

From Denny: Smiling. It comes naturally. You would think no one had to remind us to smile, now would you? Yet the pressures of Life can crowd in our good attitude, squeezing it so small sometimes. How to counteract that problem? Just smile. It's that simple.

When I was a teenager my father was stationed in Taiwan and we lived with him. While I went to an American boarding school I had the chance to meet an unusual man: a very old Taoist master. He was one of those rare recluses that usually lived high up in the mountains of the country and never came down to the cities. Most of his countrymen heard of him as a powerful legend and had never set eyes on him.

He wasn't a hermit; he was a Taoist spiritual master. And he said he came down from the mountain to teach me. I was honored yet still a bit young to fully understand just how pivotal that moment was in my life but I fully appreciated it and thanked him. His gender bigoted apprentices were less than enthused. He pressed on. And one of those simple concepts he taught me was about The Inner Smile.

One of things I enjoyed about learning from the Chinese and Old Master (I couldn't pronounce his name then) was how their minds moved. They were fellow conceptual thinkers and it was easy for me to follow their line of thought. They fully embraced ultimate simplicity because they knew the power in it. So when I tell you that there is power in the simple exercise of The Inner Smile it is true. Basically, what you are doing is reaffirming Life, validating yourself as worthy to live and balancing your spiritual energy by focusing it upon your heart and inner health. That's it.

All you do is close your eyes and visualize looking inward at yourself. You literally smile at every part of yourself you "see" in your visualization. Do that for 15 minutes a day and you will not suffer from depression, anger or worry when stressful times come. Keeping your spiritual energy balanced helps you when Life challenges approach and you take a journey in a Life test to learn more about yourself and the role of living the life of a spiritual being in the Universe.

Destress: 3 Great Encouragement Quotes

*** Learn new coping strategies from others who have experienced adversity.

From Denny: Have you ever taken note that some of the best quotes for encouraging us to take heart when faced with tough times always come from people who have experienced long term adversity? President Abraham Lincoln, president during the Civil War years and assassinated, knew adversity even before he came into office. He ran in 69 political races and finally won.

He was president over a bitterly divided country at war against itself far worse than we see now. Unbelievable but true. Lincoln also experienced the deep sorrow of losing a young son to illness while in the White House. The First Lady went into such grief that she never came out of mourning. All this going on inside his family while he still had a country to calm down and quit killing themselves.

To handle long term stress it helps to catch your balance by devising coping skills you can use on a daily, sometimes hourly basis. That can involve the little things that bring you joy and lift your spirits. It could be something as simple as cooking a favorite meal, trying out a new recipe, getting in the car and traveling some remote country road to take photos of whatever you happen to come upon. For some it could be playing a favorite sport like pick-up basketball every week at a regularly scheduled time, going to your kid's soccer games or joining an interest group where you can share what you are doing and be inspired by what other members are creating.

It also helps to create a long term strategy to help you through months and years of rebuilding your life. That involves systematically getting your head in the game with a life philosophy that helps create a strong mindset. We need the strong pivot point of a belief so we can securely plant our feet into that foundation to help us live practically day to day. Those thoughts keep us hopeful and positive. When times look grim we can refocus our thoughts upon our core beliefs to help settle our emotions and get through the day. In a long term strategy - to deal successfully with stress - it's all about getting through the moment, getting through the day to live another day. Each day adds up creating the moments of your life.

Eventually, Life improves and the worries fade away over time. It's the transition that can be difficult if you don't have a good plan. A good plan involves constantly filling yourself with positive thoughts while you deal with each day. Keeping your attitude balanced and positive is 90 percent of the battle. When you are in a good mood it helps you to see what steps to take next to resolve issues as you go through the process.

Most long term stressful situations require a series of steps involving problem-solving strategies. Just when you handle one problem it seems yet another arises. That's when you focus upon your successes. Take a good look at each problem and your success to see clearly the pattern of the journey of where the universe is guiding you. You will be amazed.

Quote

* It is said an Eastern monarch once charged his wise men to invent him a sentence to be ever in view, and which should be true and appropriate in all times and situations. They presented him the words: "And this, too, shall pass away." - President Abraham Lincoln

* When you feel like giving up, remember why you held on for so long in the first place. - Anonymous

* Instead of giving myself reasons why I can't, I give myself reasons why I can. - Anonymous

How Are Hopes, Dreams and Reality Related?

*** Views Today: 16,700 and Thank You!

*** The pressure of Life tests can act like an alarm clock awakening us to act.

From Denny: Sometimes, we can feel like Life is raining on our parade. The goal is to keep looking ahead for the light to guide us - or in funnier terms, "Look for the exit sign!" - especially when you are in a tough life test that feels like you are trapped in a maze. Life puts pressures on us all. It's that uncomfortable pressure that gives voice to the fact we need to move on from where we are because we are not growing. Those pressures act like a loud alarm clock to startle us fully awake to act.

The beauty of this quote is that it addresses being fully conscious, fully present, fully awake. These are the hallmarks of having achieved a deeper level of spiritual development: when you are aware every moment. The entire process of true spiritual development is our everyday conscious mind merging gracefully with our eternal spiritual mind, working in harmony each day.

Hope is a friend. Hope is a vehicle to take us to that greater state of development. Hope delivers us from only a dream into a beautiful reality worth staying awake to enjoy.

Quote

* For Hope is but the dream of those that wake. - Matthew Prior

Let Your Silent Voice Sing

Our writing voice is heard in the silence.

Silent Voice Singing

I write in silence as I speak
Words noisy tap, stride the screen
Flying out into virtual air for All
To find, think, and new minds see

There is a season for everything
Words once spoken
Words once thought
New voices, new words
Rise to sing the New Year.

How Do Dreamers Create Our World?

From Denny: What does the future bring in your thoughts? Are your thoughts full of fear, anger, resentment? Are your thoughts full of hope, inspiration and dreams? Our thoughts upon which we focus daily end up determining our level of happiness and success in Life. You would be surprised how powerful our thoughts can be. Dream. Dream of the best for yourself and those around you. Dream a powerful dream that becomes reality.

How Are Our Lives Like An Open Book?

Photo by Vincent Damiano @ flickr

From Denny: Though it can be argued that calendars chase after the illusion of Time as linear and tangible, humanity still makes the vain attempt year after year. Perhaps it feeds our fantasies of mastering our Universe? Perhaps it soothes our collective fears in an uncertain world? Perhaps calendars assist us in grappling with the serious issues we face in this place called Life?

One practice is undeniably true: we can always begin our lives anew. When we fail ourselves or others, we can regroup, rethink our approach, choose another path in Life and being the slow tentative dance forward into the Unknown.

Quote

* We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day. - Edith Lovejoy Pierce
