Mothers Day Quotes: Rose Kennedy

From Denny: When you are looking for inspiration in tough times and wondering how to get through the trials of being a mother, look no further than to Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy. Her life often played out like an intense soap opera. She experienced the deaths of several of her children before their time, of which two were political assassinations. She lost her first son to war. Her husband cheated on her and yet she remained committed to the marriage.

Rose Kennedy was one tough lady you could not help but admire. She looked at her children as powerhouses that would influence others and change the world. And change the world they did. One even became president: John F. Kennedy.

No matter how dark times looked she looked up to God and kept her faith. She also kept her great sense of humor for she was a very intelligent woman greatly interested in social issues. She believed in a life of public service and remained steadfast in her beliefs and her commitments to others until the day she left this earth.

What she left behind is one larger than life legacy in her children and grandchildren. Like other people they are imperfect, learning who they are and how they can help others while they are on their life's journey of discovery.

As you read through these quotes attributed to her you will be amused at her insight into living life as fully as possible. You will also discover her "true grit" that she was as mentally tough as any seasoned warrior. Yet she maintained an emotional tenderness, loving with an open heart.

Birds sing after a storm; why shouldn't people feel as free to delight in whatever remains to them?

I looked on child rearing not only as a work of love and duty but as a profession that was fully as interesting and challenging as any honorable profession in the world and one that demanded the best that I could bring to it.

I tell myself that God gave my children many gifts - spirit, beauty, intelligence, the capacity to make friends and to inspire respect. There was only one gift he held back - length of life.

I'm like old wine. They don't bring me out very often, but I'm well preserved.

I've had an exciting time; I married for love and got a little money along with it.

If you can keep your head about you when all about you are losing theirs, its just possible you haven't grasped the situation.

It's our money, and we're free to spend it any way we please.

Life isn't a matter of milestones, but of moments.

Make sure you never, never argue at night. You just lose a good night's sleep, and you can't settle anything until morning anyway.

More business is lost every year through neglect than through any other cause.

Neither comprehension nor learning can take place in an atmosphere of anxiety.

Prosperity tries the fortunate, adversity the great.

The time will come when it will disgust you to look in the mirror.

There's nothing I like less than bad arguments for a view that I hold dear.

In the middle of a world that had always been a bit mad, the cat walks with confidence.

I have always believed that God never gives a cross to bear larger than we can carry. No matter what, he wants us to be happy, not sad. Birds sing after a storm. Why shouldn't we?

Any woman who still thinks marriage is a fifty-fifty proposition is only proving that she doesn't understand either men or percentages.

If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament.

There can be no really pervasive system of oppression, such as that in the United States, without the consent of the oppressed.

If you can keep your head about you when all about you are losing theirs, its just possible you haven't grasped the situation.

The biggest sin is sitting on your ass.

Prosperity tries the fortunate: adversity the great.
